A syndicate of BayernLB, Helaba and NORD/LB is providing EUR 389 million in financing for the purchase of 56 electric trains by Go-Ahead Bayern GmbH. The rail company will put the 44 Mireo multiple units and 12 Desiro-HC double-decker trains from Siemens Mobility into service from December 2022 on the routes Ulm-Augsburg-Munich, Würzburg-Donauwörth and Augsburg-Donauwörth.
Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft awarded the contract to operate the Augsburg-area networks to Go-Ahead Bayern GmbH at the end of last year. This is the fifth passenger rail network the company with British roots has won in Germany, following three networks around Stuttgart and the Allgäu e-rail network. It increases the rail network operated by Go-Ahead in Germany to around 20 million kilometres from 2022.
The 56 combinable trainsets are designed to meet the increasing traffic demand in the region. In particular, the double-decker trains planned for routes to and from Munich will provide a substantial increase in seating capacity.
The tailor-made structured leasing solution, which was set up in close cooperation with Deutsche Anlagen-Leasing (DAL) as lessor, will run for 27 years and cover the construction and operation phase. As lead manager BayernLB is providing 40 percent of the financing (EUR 155 million), while Helaba and NORD/LB are each taking on 30 percent (EUR 117 million each).
Markus Strehle, Chairman of the Management at DAL Deutsche Anlagen-Leasing GmbH & Co. KG: “We and all those involved in the project are delighted with the exceptional team performance and the expertise brought to bear together with the banking syndicate to implement this tailor-made financing structure. All the more so because it is a regional public transport project in line with sustainable mobility goals.”
